Walking and cycling

There are walks and cycleways practically from the hotel doorstep including The Pennine Way, the Longdendale Trail, Pennine Bridleway, and Trans Pennine Trail. See the following links for further information.

Pennine Way: We are situated close to Crowdon at the end of Section 1 of the Pennine Way (travelling South to North). We are ideally situated for your first overnight stop (or last if walking North to South). We offer a FREE pick up and drop of service to/from your walking point. Packed lunches are also available for the next leg of your journey.

The Trans Pennine Trail: The Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is a route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders linking the North and Irish seas, passing through the Pennines, alongside rivers and canals and through some of the most historic towns and cities in the North of England. Windy Harbour Farm Hotel is situated close to Longdendale giving access to the Trans Pennine Trail West section.

Longdendale Trail: The Longdendale Trail is a long-distance trail that runs a distance of approximately 6.5 miles (10.4km) from Hadfield, Derbyshire to Woodhead Tunnel before crossing the A628 and climbing a steep moorland track towards the Yorkshire border at Salter's Brook. The route follows the line of the former Manchester to Sheffield railway, converted to a safe, traffic-free trail for everyone.  Its smooth level sandy surface means it is suitable for people in wheelchairs and less agile people, as well as families with small children and pushchairs.

~~~
Pennine Bridleway: The first purpose-built long distance bridleway for horse riders, mountain bikers and walkers. Once fully open it will run from the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire to Byrness, Northumberland, around 350 miles.
~
Mountain Biking: Those who are fans of classic good old fashioned mountain biking will know there are few locations which beat the Peaks. See www.knowheretoride.com and www.mountainbikerides.co.uk for details of some of the best and most challenging trails in the Peak District, taking in Glossop, Kinder, Edale, Ladybower, Hayfield, Hope, Hathersage and Rushup Edge to name but a few.
